Book presentation

Visual and dialogic, the eleven cinematographic stories in this collection are set in the everyday world of the city, tinged with loneliness, or in the countryside, viewed with an acute awareness of its inevitable disappearance. Whether on the beach at Vama Veche, in the nightclubs of Bucharest and Cluj, on the streets of London, or on the hills of isolated villages, the protagonists are looking for themselves, they are looking for the other, but more often than not they are waiting for something: for dawn to come so that they can go and visit somebody in hospital, for the night to pass so that they can find peace, for the party to end so that they can bring to bed the one they desire, for a telephone call from the one who has disappeared; they are hoping to escape from an inevitable altercation with their life. Violence and death constantly stalk fragile existence, in a world where friendship and love build fleeting, life-saving bridges between solitary individuals. With their unpredictable situations, dramatic endings, and bold language, which some might find shocking, the stories in End of Season are eloquent illustrations of contemporary sensibilities.

The book has been nominated for the Prize of the 2015 Romanian Book Industry Gala in the “Best Book of the Year” section; the National Prose Prize of Ziarul de Iasi newspaper, and 2015 Radio Romania Cultural Prize in the “Prose Book of the Year” section.
